The press about "Business/IT Fusion"
- “Business Alignment is a dead-end street!”IT Service Magazine, 1 November 2009 (Dutch)
Long live IT Fusion. Vandaar de term ‘IT Fusion’.

- 'Business-IT alignment' is dead... whatever it wasJoe McKendrick's blog, 26 February 2009 (in English)
Long the subject of countless articles, blogs, and seminars: Do IT folks “get” the business? How do we achieve “business-IT alignment”?Perhaps its time to put this tired argument to rest. IT folks not only “get” the business, they are the business.
by Joe McKendrick
"So, rather than merely becoming “aligned” — with all the vagueness the term suggests — business becomes the driver of IT, and IT becomes the driver of business. What to call this state of oneness? “Fusion” is the term Hinssen suggested, but that’s already taken by a vendor. Perhaps a “tight coupling” between the business and IT? (How’s that for adding to the confusion ?) But perhaps the time has come to stop talking about “alignment” as if the business and IT were separate organizations. They are one."

The book is divided into readable chunks about topics ranging from alignment models to lateral (the opposite of logical) thinking."

"Most IT people today are still in denial. They don't really see that things are changing in IT, and that our role and place in organizations has to change dramatically. They don't really feel the changing attitude of the business fueled by commoditization and consumerization," Hinssen writes, placing much of the blame on the Alignment Model that he claims is a failure.

“The most fun I got to do last year is to bring awareness to the board of a large financial institution on the possibilities of IT. Brilliant people, highly educated, but with little knowledge of IT. At first I noticed that they hesitated in participating but now that we have done it 4 times, their eyes are opening and they bring one idea after another in which IT plays a large part.”

“Some ideas can be found in the new book "Business/IT Fusion", where Peter Hinssen defines 'Fusion' as the blending of IT into the business. No longer treating IT as a supplier but completely integrating IT into the business. He says that Fusion will allow companies to focus on technology-enabled innovation, instead of just on the commodity savings potential of technology.”
