The marketing of IT

How to sell IT to the business?

Building up the communication skills, and developing a marketing mindset within IT is just part of an overall approach to strive towards better IT Alignment, and a totally new relationship between business and IT. Building a better communication will be essential in our drive to radiate IT leadership.

  • What is the rationale for communication in IT, and what are the mechanisms for communicating with the business on IT-related matters?
  • How do we build a communication and marketing strategy for the information technology function?
  • How can you raise the communication potential and marketing savvyness of your IT staff?

In companies worldwide, IT departments are standing up to fight for recognition and respect.
Why? Because sadly, their business colleagues still do not grasp the full scope of their capacities.
IT departments can play a proactive and leading role in the company’s innovative processes. IT people do not only install and maintain technology: they can imagine, create, innovate, and change. To alter the business perception of IT, IT departments have begun creating their own separate IT annual reports.
A clever way to show the world who they are and what they are capable of.

A visually attractive, well-written and creative annual report can also attract future IT employees. The archaic thought that IT departments are only filled with technical computer nerds belongs to the past. IT annual reports clearly demonstrate that IT departments require social, inventive and communicative people: people who can bridge the gap between IT and business.
Listed below, are a number of interesting IT annual reports:
